THESEUS

“THESEUS”, a research program initiated by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology (BMWi), was designed to create an environment in which the development and creation of new knowledge structures can arise. An important goal is to improve knowledge utilization by applying next generation internet technologies.

A total of 6 application scenarios (use cases) are promoted. In order to establish the necessary infrastructure, a range of basic technologies (core technology cluster) are being developed in parallel. The automated semantic analysis of texts and multimedia files or the handling of ontologies, are just a few examples.

As program coordinator, Attensity Europe plays an important, central role in the THESEUS research program, together with a stellar lineup of other partners. The THESEUS Program Office (TPO) coordinates the work within the consortium and provides comprehensive support in the areas of public relations, project management (work package and mile stone planning), program development as well as internal and external partner networking. The TPO represents the consortium in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), responsible for the project. The TPO also connects contacts, supports dialog with parties interested in the program, maintains the program networks with THESEUS – Joint research, and cultivates collaboration between all involved parties.

Over a period of five years, the research program will develop a variety of scenarios for internet based knowledge infrastructures, also called use cases. In addition to its role as THESEUS program coordinator, Attensity Europe also heads two of the six existing use cases. ORDO and PROCESSUS are mutually developed and evaluated in conjunction with other THESEUS consortium partners.

THESEUS NEWS

THESEUS is an umbrella organization uniting 30 researchers from the public and industry sectors to collaborate in developing and designing innovative basic technologies. The goal: To simplify access to information, network data to new knowledge, and create the basis for the development of new Internet services. In the application scenario TEXO, an infrastructure is developed with which services are easily combined and utilized. Thus, an important step toward the Internet of Services is made. Based on a concrete example, the powerful potential of automated services is demonstrated. Watch the video here.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) launched the second phase of the THESEUS research program on July 30, 2008 with the “THESEUS SME 2009” technology competition. The competition provides small and midsized enterprises with the opportunity to participate in shaping the future of the internet. The primary goal lies in the development of new technologies and application scenarios. Small and midsized companies have the ability to contribute with their creativity and capabilities to strongly influence technology and market developments. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) provides funding amounting to 10 million Euros.
